TODAY'S LESSON AND HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT

Teacher Assistant Duties

BRING A MUG AND HOT CHOCOLATE.

THEME FOR THE YEAR:
CONNECTIONS

HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS:
STUDY FOR EXAM!

TODAY'S LESSON OBJECTIVES
Today I hope you will learn
1) more about the 9th grade speech topic, and ...

2) a little more about how your writing teacher writes,  and ...

3) about the connection between a song and A Tale of Two Cities, and ...

4) more about items to review for the exam.

STEPS IN THE LESSON
1) First, we will look at 3 poems, one of which you will have to write your exam essay on. Read them each day until Thursday, and see if you can relate it to your life and to A Tale of Two Cities

2 Next, we will go over the official topic for your speeches. Is "The Fire in My Heart" an OK title? Basically, your speech should be about whatever inspires (or has inspired) you in your life -- a person or persons, an idea, an activity, an event, a place, etc. (You will light a candle or some other flame before you begin speaking.) You should write the speech straight from the heart. It does not have to be in essay form. It could be a poem, or just a long, flowing, honest statement about what inspires you -- what starts "a fire in your heart". Your speech should be roughly 400 words in length, and the first draft should be shown to me one week before the date of your speech.

3) Next, we will read the paragraph I wrote yesterday and briefly note the revisions I made after finishing the first draft.
What do we mean by "first draft"?  When do you make revisions?  As you write?  Immediately after you finish the draft?  Later?

4) Next, we will make sure you all know clearly what you need to study for the exam on Thursday.

5.) Finally, as we leave, let us thank each other for helping to make this a good class.
