Don't forget to post an 8-sentence summary on your Reading Blog tonight. Please include the title and pages read.

TODAY'S LESSON AND HOMEWORK

Theme for the Year: CONNECTIONS

Remember -- as you leave my classroom,
be sure to thank someone
for helping us have a good English class.

Homework Assignment
1.  Using assonance in 5 different places, and in an intelligent, careful way, write a 5-stanza villanelle about "fires in the heart", or learning, or the idea of "Ithaka", or what inspires you. (See link to "Villanelle" in the upper right sidebar.) Be careful to not overdo the assonance. Use it so that it subtly enhances the poem without completely dominating it. Post the poem, highlighting the uses of assonance, on Google Docs and share it with me.

   2. Memorize the first 7 lines of "Ithaka" by tomorrow's class.

TODAY'S LESSON

Today you will (I hope) come to a clear understanding of how to write a villanelle.

Also, I hope you will come to an understanding of lines in The Tempest.

The Steps of the Lesson

1. Check the paragraphs using alliteration.

2.  Discuss the form of a villanelle.

3. 17 IMPORTANT ITEMS FOR HIGH SCHOOL ENGLISH STUDENTS: ASSONANCE

4. The Tempest
