TODAY'S LESSON AND HOMEWORK
Theme for the Year: CONNECTIONS
Remember -- as you leave my classroom,
be sure to thank someone
for helping us have a good English class.
Homework Assignment
1) Write a special tribute* for Edward -- something that praises him both for his speech and for what he is as a person. Write it with care. Make it at least an 8-sentence paragraph, and something he will truly enjoy looking at and reading on the "9th Grade Speech" bulletin board. Print it out and bring it to class tomorrow. No wrinkles allowed.
*tribute: a statement that is intended to show gratitude, respect, and/or admiration
2) Watch this video very carefully. You might want to pause it now and then and take a few notes, because there will be a test on the video tomorrow.
Lesson Objectives
Today you will learn (I hope) ...
1) more about making helpful comments on your partners' first drafts,
and
2) about the difference between relaxing reading and serious reading, and the difference between liking and appreciating a book, and
3) more about reading a challenging novel with care.
The Steps of the Lesson
* First we will go over some ways to make helpful comments on your partners' first drafts (in Computer Lab)
* Next, let's look at our "English Lessons for the Class of 2012" and look at the first two reading lessons.
* Next, we will begin reading aloud Ch. 23 of TOTC.
