Tuesday, February 7, Day 93

Don't forget to post an 8-sentence summary on your Reading Blog tonight and Thursday. Please include the title and pages read.

TODAY'S LESSON AND HOMEWORK

Theme for the Year: CONNECTIONS

Remember -- as you leave my classroom,
be sure to thank someone
for helping us have a good English class.

Homework Assignment
1) Study terms for quiz on Thursday.
2) POST A COMMENT ON "ENGLISH FORUM" BY SUNDAY NIGHT.
2) Post a summary on your Reading Blog.
3) Make three comments on your partners' first drafts -- one specific compliment and two specific suggestions.
4) Add one excellent example of a sentence with compound subjects (at least three) to your essay, and highlight and identify it. Make sure it truly enhances the paragraph.

Lesson Objectives
Today you will learn (I hope) ...
1) about the difference between relaxing reading and serious reading, and
2) more about reading a challenging novel with care.

The Steps of the Lesson
First, let's take the quiz on last night's video. Hopefully you will all get well-deserved A's!
* Next, we will take a look at your tributes for Edward. I know they will be something special -- genuine messages of gratitude, respect, and admiration for a good classmate
and a wonderful person.
* Next, let's look at Reading Lesson 1 on the "English Lessons for the Class of 2012" -- "The Difference between Relaxing Reading and Serious Reading"
* Finally, let's continue reading from TOTC, Ch. 23. This is definitely NOT relaxing reading. We are climbing a high mountain in this book, and it takes persistence and courage to do it. Good luck! I'll meet you at the summit!
