TODAY'S LESSON AND HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT
Today we had a quiz covering 79 important literary, grammar, and SAT terms. We also discussed the students' work on Essay 2, including their revisions and comments, and then looked at their "tweets" about A Raisin in the Sun. Finally, we discussed conflict, foreshadowing, and mood, as those terms relate to the play.
Homework for tonight is to polish and finish Essay 2 on Google Docs. On the Vineyard, the students will be working on the following special writing assignment:
Write a short work of fiction, filling 4 pages in your Vineyard notebook, about a group of young people on an island. The story can be in any genre (mystery, romance, thriller, science fiction, comedy, fantasy), and must include as major elements the following items: a pine tree (for PPS, of course), a panther, a man named Barney Mitchell and a woman named Irene Iacoi, and a raisin sitting in the sun. Plus, the last sentence of the story must be in exactly these words: "Strange, but the only thing she remembered was the panther with the raisin sitting on its back." Obviously, the story should be neatly and carefully written.
